What would happen if skateparks were designed around skateboarding itself?
How do you create a public space that can support the community by supporting skateboarding?
What if you could design and build a public skate-space that did not create a cost, noise, or visual burden?
These and other questions are answered in our Sustainable Skateparks initiative. Coming Soon.
From our roots in the Lakewood Skaters Association, this is the first skatepark we worked on. It is a small park that was talked about for 15 years before the city of Lakewood finally committed to doing it. It also represents the first true legal skatespot in Northeast Ohio. Cleveland needs a quality skatepark. The neighbor that builds it first will benefit from solid foot traffic coming from all corners of the county and beyond. Slavic Village is central to the region and has the right mix of community backing and public locations for a new node on the skatespot circuit.
As a means to raise money for skateparks and to start to unify the disparate scenes of the midwest, we created "Know Skateboarding Day". Each one will entail several aspects of skateboarding and attract a regional audience and raise money for a good public skatepark project.
